The curiosity approach

Picture
I have always had a passion for using natural objects, loose parts and open ended resources to promote learning through play. I believe these objects give children the opportunity to be focused, imaginative, inventive and to be inspired to explore and learn.

I am an accredited 'Curiosity Approach' setting.
The process took me a year to complete involved creating a portfolio of evidence to be submitted for my setting to become officially accredited by the Curiosity Approach.

What is the Curiosity approach?
The Curiosity Approach is a beautiful mix of ingredients from our early pioneers & philosophers; Reggio, Steiner, Montessori. With a mix of Te Whariki & a whole heap of CURIOSITY.
This is modern day Approach that fits perfectly in current changing technological times. Bringing curiosity, awe and wonder into early childhood & creating the 'thinkers & doers' of the future.

The curiosity approach requires an environment that is calming and welcoming, full of interesting resources, including authentic, real world items and loose parts to bring out children's natural curiosity. Children use their imagination to create their own play, rather than the toys doing the thinking for them.

Take a look at the curiosity approach website or Facebook page to see what it's all about!

My home

I live in a 4 bedroom house. The whole of the ground floor is used for childminding, this includes a living room with play area, kitchen/diner with table and chairs for meal times and arts and crafts and we also have a downstairs toilet.

I have a secure garden. We have a sand tray, water tray, play house and outdoor kitchen.

I am able to provide a range of equipment such as a pushchair, travel cot and highchair.

The safety of my home is taken very seriously. I carry out a risk assessment of my home to identify and remove all potential hazards.

Activities

I will plan exciting activities, based on your child's individual interests and level of development. Activities are based on the concept that children learn through play. I provide exciting, engaging activities which provide opportunities for children to make progress in all 7 areas of learning as they play and explore.

Please go to my Facebook page or instagram where photos are updated regularly to see the kind of activities we do.
